Dangerous Truck Drivers

I recently commented on internet comments in my Stockton Blog. In this instance, two trucking companies and their drivers are being sued over a 2008 accident on I-15 in Las Vegas in which two honeymooners outside their stranded vehicle were struck and killed. Truck drivers have a variety of responsibilities that many people are unfamiliar with when performing their job. It's not just driving, but maintenance and reporting requirements just to name a couple. However, the comment made to this particular incident struck me as very specific and therefore more insightful.

Being a truck driver for 30 years may I say that it is common knowledge that JB Hunt has the lowest hiring standards and very poorly trained drivers. They are basically the laughing stock of the industry. Although it could have happened to anyone, I was reading it in my head and thought it must have been a JB Hunt driver. Oops I hate when I am right.

I was a J.B Hunt driver for 13 1/2 years ANd have now been with Wal Mart as a driver for the last 6 years.
Wal Mart is considered to have the safest private fleet on the road today. If Hunt were such a bad company then why would they even have considered my application let alone hiring me.

I find this statement rather offensive . I have driven for JB Hunt for nearly 12 years. I am required to attend safety training classes often. The hours of service laws are strictly enforced by the company. JB Hunt is a large company and I sure there are a few bad drivers but on the whole I believe Hunt to be a safe company. What scares me is the so called "independents" who feel that the HOS laws are not for them. Often it is the independents and small fleet drivers who are speeding and tailgating four wheelers and each other. This is MY experience and MY opinion for what it is worth.

JB Hunt hires some of the safest drivers on the road and I will never understand the ignorant bashing of that company. I drove for JB Hunt for 5 years before getting on with FedEx.
I think it is just childish.
